    FESS Workshop Tour

Take a look inside our purpose-built Fire, Emergency and Security Systems (FESS) workshop at Team Valley, Gateshead.

Our FESS apprentices develop their skills through a combination of classroom-based learning and practical training, giving them the opportunity to put their knowledge into practice using a range of industry equipment and systems. In this workshop tour, our FESS Curriculum Lead, Ethan Roberts, introduces the facilities before our trainer, Richard, takes you around the workshop and explains what apprentices work on in each area. Learners have the opportunity to work with systems from a range of manufacturers, giving them broad practical experience. Some apprentices may already be familiar with the equipment through their employer, while for others it may be their first time working with a particular system. This approach helps learners build their technical knowledge, practical skills and confidence. Health and safety is also a key focus throughout the programme, helping apprentices understand the importance of working safely for themselves, their colleagues and others. For prospective apprentices, our practical sessions provide an opportunity to develop skills and experience alongside their workplace learning. For employers, the workshop forms an important part of developing apprentices who can apply their learning in the workplace and build the technical skills and knowledge needed within the FESS industry. Our delivery has been designed to combine practical, industry-relevant training with workplace experience, supporting apprentices as they progress towards a career in the Fire, Emergency and Security Systems sector.
