    Funding & Incentives

Discover the latest apprenticeship funding and employer incentives available to help you recruit, develop and retain talented employees.

Recruiting and developing apprentices can be a cost-effective way to build the skills your business needs. With new funding opportunities and employer incentives being introduced regularly, there are even more ways for organisations to invest in new talent while reducing the cost of training.

Whether you’re recruiting your first apprentice or expanding your workforce, understanding the funding available can help you make informed decisions and maximise your investment.

Small and medium-sized, non-Levy employers can receive full funding for recruiting and training eligible apprentices aged 16–24, plus a £1000 incentive for 16-18 year-olds.

This expansion significantly increases the number of young people who qualify for fully funded apprenticeship opportunities, making apprenticeships an even more accessible option for employers.

Additional financial incentives are being introduced to encourage employers to recruit young people into apprenticeships and employment.

    These include:

    • A £3,000 Youth Jobs Grant for employers recruiting eligible 18–24-year-olds who have been claiming Universal Credit for at least six months.
    • Employer recruitment incentives of between £2,000 and £3,000 for eligible apprentices aged 16–24.
    • The ability for eligible employers to combine available grants, meaning some businesses could access incentives of up to £7,000 when recruiting qualifying Foundation Apprentices.

These incentives demonstrate the Government’s continued investment in helping employers recruit young people while supporting economic growth.

Further reforms are expected to make apprenticeship funding more flexible.

The Growth and Skills Levy replaces the traditional Apprenticeship Levy, allowing employers greater flexibility in how training funds are used.

    Proposals currently under discussion include:

    • Funding for a wider range of training, including short courses and modular learning.
    • Greater flexibility in workforce development.
    • More opportunities to combine apprenticeships with other training.

Some additional proposals, including shorter levy fund expiry periods and changes to employer co-investment, are expected to be introduced in stages. As these proposals continue to develop, employers should seek advice before making long-term funding decisions.
