    Fire, Emergency & Security Systems

Develop the expertise to design, install, and maintain the systems that protect lives and buildings every day.

    Overview

Our Fire, Emergency & Security Systems (FESS) programmes are designed to develop the next generation of skilled technicians while helping employers address growing skills shortages within the industry. Through practical, workplace-based learning, apprentices gain the technical expertise needed to support the design, installation, maintenance, and repair of critical life safety and security systems.

As demand for qualified professionals continues to increase, investing in apprenticeship training provides organisations with a sustainable way to develop talent, strengthen workforce capability, and build future succession pipelines. Whether recruiting new entrants or upskilling existing employees, our programmes help businesses develop competent, confident professionals who can contribute from day one.

The Fire, Emergency & Security Systems apprenticeship standard has evolved significantly to reflect the needs of a modern industry. Today’s programme focuses on developing the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to become a successful FESS technician, with expertise spanning fire detection and alarm systems, emergency lighting, security systems, access control, and other electronic life safety technologies.

    Experienced Worker Assessment

The Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) provides a valuable route for experienced fire, emergency, and security systems engineers to gain formal recognition for the skills, knowledge, and experience they have developed throughout their career. Designed for professionals who can demonstrate occupational competence within the Fire, Emergency & Security Systems (FESS) sector, the EWA enables individuals to achieve a nationally recognised qualification and apply for full technician status without completing a traditional apprenticeship.
