Lean Manufacturing Operative

Duration of the programme: Approximately 18 months

This apprenticeship deals with the process of converting raw materials, components, or parts into finished goods. It covers a range of areas such as health & safety, environmental, production, lean manufacturing operations, quality control, problem solving and continuous improvement.  There are four specialist job roles that the apprenticeship will focus upon, they are:

Option 1 Lean Manufacturing Operative – working within a Production/Assembly role

Option 2 Manufacturing Operative – working within an Inspection/Quality Assurance role

Option 3 Manufacturing Operative – working within an Logistic/Material handling role

Option 4 Manufacturing Operative – working within a Production Processing/Finishing role

Delivery is through a mixture of training (both on and off the job) and a series of fortnightly workshops in our Gateshead training centre.

Qualifications

The Apprentice will work towards the EAL level 2 Diploma in Manufacturing (knowledge and skills) and also take Functional Skills Maths and English prior to completion (functional skills will not be required if exemptions are held).

Assessment

Towards the end of the apprenticeship, the employer and Access Trainer will agree when the apprentice is ready for the end point assessment (EPA).  An independent assessment organisation will carry out the EPA to assess whether the apprentice has met all of the requirements of the standard.

The EPA has 2 components that need to be passed – a practical observation with Q&A and a professional discussion.
