An NVQ is a National Vocational Qualification that is delivered in the workplace and allows you to learn whilst working. It is a competency-based qualification that reflects the skills and knowledge needed to do a specific job. These qualifications are assessed in the workplace through observation of performance, evaluation of evidence and questioning, and an Access Trainer will visit the learner regularly to guide them through their programme of study.
The length of the programme can vary depending upon the level undertaken. We currently offer NVQ’s in a range of occupational areas at levels 2-5.
An Apprenticeship is a work-based training programme designed around the needs of employers, which leads to nationally-recognised qualifications for the apprentice. Apprenticeships are designed to help employees learn on the job, developing practical skills and abilities and helping them to become the best at what they do.
An Apprenticeship is a ‘framework’ of qualifications which usually includes:
- An NVQ specific to your occupational area
- Functional Skills in English, Maths & ICT
- A Technical Certificate
The length of the programme can vary depending upon the level undertaken and we currently offer a range of occupational areas in Intermediate, Advanced and Higher level Apprenticeships.
We provide companies with quality Apprentices that make a real difference to their business. We take pride in ensuring we recruit the right person for the job and we support you every step of the way to employing a fully qualified, reliable employee. We would help with the recruitment & selection process saving you time and also the associated costs. Apprentices bring enthusiasm and new ideas to the business, whilst undergoing training and developing their skills.
We can also help to up-skill your existing employees and can deliver Apprenticeship programmes to help develop the skills of your current team.
Wherever possible we will utilise Government funding to support the cost of training your staff, where this is not available we can provide details of costs. We will also provide you with information about current grants that may be accessed.
Young people often face the dilemma of needing good work experience to get a job, but can’t get the experience without a job. The government has introduced a new programme (Traineeships) to tackle this problem.
Traineeships are part of the same family as Apprenticeships, last up to 6 months, include high quality work experience placements (typically for 3 months), work preparation training e.g. job search and interviewing skills and where appropriate further help with English & Maths (recognising that these are key to long term sustainable employment).
Although no costs are involved we would suggest you offer / pay travel & meal costs for the trainees (and we would agree this with you before placements begin).
We are particularly keen to offer placements in the following areas:
- Office based roles (admin, book keeping and accounts, customer service etc…)
- Storage or warehousing
- Light / general manufacturing
Offering such placements and support can obviously help the individual, but they are also beneficial to the employer in the following ways:
- Good for staff morale as the company is seen to be helping young people
- Good for staff development – experience of mentoring / supervising inexperienced staff
- Following initial training & support the individual may be able to contribute to the company’s workload
- Ideal opportunity to assess potential employees at little cost
