Selection process

If your application meets the required standard we will invite you for an initial interview at our Training Centre on the Team Valley in Gateshead.

CVs for those applicants successful at the initial interview are sent to employers who may invite you for an interview at their premises which in turn may lead to an offer of employment.

Access will then work with you and your employer to achieve your apprenticeship qualification.

Job Title: Apprentice Accounts Administrative Assistant

Team Valley, Gateshead
Employer: Park Electrical Distributors
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week – 8:00am-4:30pm/8:30am-5pm  Mon-Fri
Salary: £160 per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen at a growing company for an apprentice Accounts Administrative Assistant based at Park-Electrical Distributors on the Team Valley. The role will be very varied and will include the following duties;

  • Answering telephone calls and taking messages from other branches within the business.
  • Dealing with customer account queries, as the role progresses.
  • Dealing with internal post
  • Administrative duties such as filing, photocopying and scanning documents
  • Reconciling supplier statements
  • Sending and responding to emails
  • Use of the office equipment – photocopier, scanner etc.
  • Processing purchase invoices

These duties are not exhaustive and other duties may be required from time to time. It is also anticipated that the duties will progress over time.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Apprentice Factory Operator, based on Pennywell Industrial Estate, Sunderland.

The successful candidate will benefit from gaining skills and experience in a manufacturing environment whilst working towards a qualification.  Duties to include:

  • Packing products ready for dispatch
  • Trimming and laminating plastic baths
  • Lifting of baths
  • Use of computerised systems to manager orders
  • Using drilling and polishing machinery
  • A range of general housekeeping tasks to ensure that the workplace is kept tidy and safe

  • Cutting and edging of products
  • Use of CNC drill, saw and hand sanding products
  • Polishing products
  • Quality checking goods
  • Wrapping and assembling products
  • Processing ‘goods in’ the dispatch area and location into storage
  • Checking for damages

Job Title: Apprentice Business Administration Assistant

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week – Mon-Fri between 8.00am – 6.30pm
Salary: £146.25 per week

An exciting opportunity to support the Reception Manager in the effective and efficient running of the Practice on a day-to-day basis. To provide an effective administration service to the Doctors to enable them to offer a high standard of care to patients. Duties to include:

  • Treat all patient and other sensitive information confidentially.
  • Adopt the ‘Customer Care Golden Rules’ when dealing with patients and others.
  • Prepare the Practice premises for the opening of the surgery each morning and ensure that the Practice is secure at the end of each evening.
  • Extract patient notes for doctors and replacing them when finished with.
  • Observe patients and visitors in waiting room and advise appropriate person if concerned.
  • Log in the arrival of patients and direct both them and visitors to the appropriate area.
  • Ensure waiting rooms are kept tidy.
  • File letters and results of tests in relevant patients notes on a daily basis.
  • Understand and maintain the computer patient appointment system.
  • Make patient appointments and also notify patients of appointment changes
  • Take requests for home visits, document them and refer them to the doctor on call.
  • Deal with doctors requests for emergency admissions and booking ambulances.
  • Deal with patient requests for pre-booking of ambulance service
  • Process patient’s prescription requests (Written or verbal).
  • Answer the telephone and deal with any queries as they arise and also, if unable to assist, pass to the appropriate person or take a message
  • Deal with all aspects of registering of new patients.
  • Deal with all aspects of temporary resident forms, including immediately necessary and emergency treatment, using both the manual and computer system.
  • Ensure all records of patient registration details are kept up to date e.g. change of address
  • Explain NHS systems and practice systems to patients
  • File, fax, photocopy and scan documents as appropriate
  • Receive money and issue receipts to patients for non NHS services.
  • Understand and operate the GP Links service.
  • Sort mail and ensure that outgoing mail is recorded correctly and posted at the end of each day.
  • Finance Administration, process invoices, delivery notes, cheques etc.

  • Payroll duties – checking time sheets, data input etc.
